Vermont Works for Women

Our Vision and Values

VISION

We work toward the day when women and girls make confident, deliberate choices about life and work that reflect an expansive grasp of the world’s possibilities, a fearless commitment to pursuing their dreams, and that contribute to the vitality of our communities.

MISSION

Vermont Works for Women helps women and girls recognize their potential and explore, pursue, and excel in work that leads to economic independence.

VALUES

The Potential Within

We believe that every individual possesses extraordinary potential. We persist in discerning and developing untapped skills and capacities.

Taking the Long View

We believe that change is most often the product of steady, sometimes circuitous, effort; we take the long view when assessing the success of an individual or our work

The Transformative Power of Work

We believe that work can be transformative. It helps us move towards financial independence and stabilizes our families. It connects us to others, our communities, and to a broader sense of purpose. At its best, work is an expression of our talent, our passion, and our values.

A Particular Emphasis on Nontraditional Careers

We believe that nontraditional careers offer individuals challenging and rewarding work, multiple paths to economic independence and the chance to develop invaluable skills and confidence.  We intentionally expose women and girls to careers in which they are under-represented, including the skilled trades, sciences, technology, engineering and math.

Curiosity, Candor, and Reflection

We believe that excellence hinges upon our willingness to ask questions, to face facts squarely, and to make time for meaningful reflection.

Strength in Partnership

We believe that individuals and organizations are strongest when they act in partnership with others. We help participants identify and offer themselves as supportive allies; we seek partnerships that can leverage our impact, enrich our understanding, and improve our communities.
