Girls’ Programs
We would like to share some very exciting news. After months of extensive discussion and research, Vermont Works for Women and Girls Move Mountains have merged – expending out work on behalf of girls and young women in our state.
It was clear that the best choice would be to combine forces with another like-minded organization rather than continuing to go it alone. Integrating Dirt Divas and Rock and Adventure programs into our existing infrastructure is the best possible thing for our most important constituent of all: our girls.
Our merger is motivated by a shared sense that together we can leverage resources, expertise, and our programmatic offerings to greatly magnify the impact of our work with girls and women in Vermont. Rather than competing for finite resources in our small state, together we can focus our energies on delivering programs that have a powerful and far-reaching impact, beyond what either organization could accomplish on its own.
While our two organizations have adopted different vehicles through which to work with adolescent girls, our end goal is essentially the same: to nurture strong girls so that they may become adults who make choices deliberately, with confidence. And in substance our programs are more similar than they are distinct: they are experiential in design; they offer opportunities for women and girls to challenge themselves physically through activities that are not traditionally associated with women; they promote teamwork and connection to community; and they cultivate an awareness of the messages – personal and popular – that shape the ways in which girls think about themselves.
For girls and younger women, we offer:
- Rosie’s Girls Summer Program, a nationally-recognized trades exploration day camp for girls entering 6th to 8th grade
- Dirt Divas, a mountain biking adventure-based camp for girls
- Our annual Women Can Do conference for high school girls
- Rock Climbing and Adventure, a Winter School Break experience for girls in the 6th to 8th grades
