A series of hands-on workshops for women

Thank you to the Center for Technology, Essex in Essex Jct., VT, Marineau Painting, plane jane builders and Saturn of South Burlington for donating space and training to help make these workshops a success for our participants and the community we serve.

Automotive: our first hands-on workshop this cycle, held in November, 2005. A few of the basics covered included how to change a flat, jumpstarting your car and how to talk intelligently with your auto mechanic. Thanks to Eileen Nooney and Becky Grannis, participants received hands-on experience with real cars and real tools covering an undercar tour, basic maintenance, assembling an emergency kit and brief descriptions of today's vehicle systems.

Painting: held in March, 2006 at Marineau Painting & Papering in Montpelier. Led by board member Leigh Marineau, this workshop included basic painting instruction, advice for deciding which tools to use, instruction on how to "cut in", brush techniques and surface preparation. Participants put thier skills to use by painting an office at Marineau's.

Carpentry Level 1 and 2: were held multiple times between February and April, 2006 at the Center for Technology, Essex. Led by board member Amy Judd of plane jane builders, these workshops included instruction in basic carpentry including use of hand and power tools, as well as some larger table and chop saws. Participants in Level 1 learned to make a shelf, repair a hole in sheet rock, and care and use of tools. Level 2 participants progressed to learn more in depth about windows and doors, routers, and different kinds of trim.
