TimberHomes Vermont is looking for a full-time, long-term carpenter* to join our worker-cooperative.  The exact start date is negotiable, but ideally would be before July 1, 2022.  The ideal candidate would have several years of carpentry experience.  In a typical year, this position would involve four months of timber framing in our Montpelier shop (January through April) and eight months of site work (May through December) on a variety of job sites within an hour of Montpelier (with occasional work on more distant job sites).  Our projects include barns, cabins, houses, and kiosks.  The ideal candidate would have an interest in project management, and might take on project management responsibilities after a couple of years at the company.  No project management experience is required.

*While we are hoping to hire a long-term employee at this time, if we can’t fill that position we will be looking for a temporary hire to work with us for 4-6 months this summer/fall on a project in Peacham, VT.

TimberHomes is both cooperatively owned and cooperatively managed.  Employees have the option to become owners following three years of employment.  Ownership comes with financial benefits as well as responsibility for collaboratively making long-term decisions about the company.  From day one, employees participate in the day-to-day decision making involved in cooperatively managing the company.  This management structure does not suit everyone.  The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in working collaboratively and in continuous intentional improvement of their interpersonal skills.

Our crew is tight-knit and you’ll often find TimberGnomes (as we call ourselves) sharing home-made pastries, playing a friendly game of ultimate frisbee, or shakin’ their stuff at a queer dance party.  The ideal candidate would find at least one of these activities enjoyable.

$19-$24/hr, based on experience. Starting wage may be slightly lower if the person we hire has no carpentry experience. New employees will have a check-in after 3 months at which time there is potential for a wage increase. Long-term employees are eligible for dental insurance, IRA, dependent care leave, long-term and short-term disability. All employees on payroll are entitled to workers comp, paid time off, and a flexible work schedule. Workplace is dog-friendly to friendly dogs.
