Community Development Specialist-My Brother's/Sister's Keeper

The Community & Economic Development Office (CEDO) is currently seeking a Community Development Specialist for My Brother's and Sister's Keeper (MBK/MSK) Initiative.  This position serves as a direct service bridge for CEDO to implement and coordinate best practices for youth of color programming across City departments, community partners and local businesses. The Community Development Specialist-MBK/MSK oversees program development and system delivery that includes planning curriculum, facilitating events, program management and assessment. They will monitor youth of color to access social, educational and employment success track to provide appropriate feedback, guidance, and timely intervention for City departments and, community youth organizations, and CEDO to improve student retention, graduation success, college and career placement.


Essential Job Functions


  • Demonstrate and implement knowledge of best practices for youth of color programming.
  • Coordinate all aspects of program development including planning, curriculum development, facilitating events, program management, and assessment.
  • Monitor progress of youth of color in MBK/MSK programming to provide appropriate feedback, guidance and timely intervention for at risk youth.
  • Assist in all areas of social, educational, and career advisement to improve youth of color access, retention, and success to internships and employment.
  • Strictly honor the privacy and security of youth and other sensitive information.
  • Communicate and partner with City Department, businesses and youth community groups to promote MBK Pathways and develop program activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of MBK community events
  • Establish and maintain good relations with co-workers and external partners.
  • Maintain office duties in CEDO including but not limited to attending staff meetings, participating in training, etc.

The ideal candidate will have professional or life experience working with youth of color support programs, as well as a working knowledge of and experience in coordinating support and mentoring/coaching initiatives for minority populations. This position requires a motivated self-starter with the ability to deliver a high level of interactive youth development support and ability to maintain collaborative relationships. Must have the ability to prioritize effectively, proactively solve problems, cultural competency understanding, interpersonal communication skills, excellent listening skills and possess a student-centered philosophy and demonstrate the ability to work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, and collaborative environment. Must be able to work in a team environment, while also being self-directed. Must adapt to changing job duties and be able to multi-task Must be able to assume administrative responsibility and carry out tasks with minimal instruction. Detail-oriented. Must be able to plan, organize and coordinate workload Must display excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work evenings as required.
