(In)equity Report Data Intern

For City of Burlington

The (In)equity Report Data Intern provides support to the Racial Equity, Inclusion & BelongingDepartment on the 2020 (In)Equity Report on conducting research on equity metrics, cleaningand analyzing data, and supporting other tasks as required.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this internship the selected candidate will be able to demonstrate:
1. An improved set of skills in mixed-methods research with a focus on qualitative datacollection and analysis
2. An increased understanding of basic City operations
3. A basic understanding of equity metrics
4. Improved communications skills
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with the Public Policy and Research Analysts to research and develop equityindicators on the City of Burlington
  • Conduct data analysis and reporting on various metrics using statistical techniques
  • Maintain the REIB databases
  • Support other (In)equity Report related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS: Some college, bachelor’s degree and research experience a plus; Coursework in statistics and/or data science’ focus on applied math, data analytics,scientific computing, or related field. Experience cleaning and interpreting real world data, including seeking out datasets toanswer research questions. Specific experience with census and city or state governmentdata a plus. Experience communicating results of research and data analysis. Skilled in data management and analysis in Excel. Experience with statistical softwaresuch as R, Python or other data tools a plus. Sincere demonstrated commitment to advancing social and/or racial justice progress forBIPOC communities. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and through written products is required. Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the jobfunctions. Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies. Ability to take on responsibilities independently with only general supervision. Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to execute projects on-time.
