Instructional Designer & Network Weaver for the EcoGather Initiative

As a part of Sterling College’s Continuing Education division, the Instructional Designer & Network Weaver will be
responsible for curriculum design, partner relationships, network and project management for the EcoGather
The Instructional Designer & Network Weaver must have a personal interest in Sterling’s mission of ecological
thinking and action and support the College’s vision of being a community in which people of all backgroundsand
identities feel at home, where differences are embraced and individuals take responsibility for furthering the dignity
of all.
The Instructional Designer & Network Weaver works closely with the Director of Continuing Education Services,
the Learning Technologist & LMS Manager, and the Creative Content Producer & Podcast Specialist. This position
also regularly interfaces with undergraduate faculty and staff in information technology. This position reports to the
Vice President for Strategic Initiatives.
The person in this role will:
● Manage the co-creative development of EcoGather modular courses with fidelity to the aims of inventing
community-centered, remote-enhanced and place-based education;
● Promote genuine collaboration, respectful partnership, and mutually beneficial relationships among Sterling
College, the 5 EcoGather partners and their key stakeholders, and learners using the platform;
● Develop a working knowledge of agriculture, food systems, and eco-social challenges in the EcoGather
partner communities, sufficient to work productively with local stakeholders and hone their knowledge into
learning assets;
● Apply systems thinking and advanced learning theories to create practical, change-oriented,
equity-enhancing curricula that support ecological thinking and action, especially in the realm agriculture
and food systems;
● Supply both creative energy and tangible outputs to help invent remote-enhanced, place-based, experiential
● Convene subject matter experts (both with formal and informal training) to identify core and emergent
learning objectives and essential content for each of the 24 anticipated EcoGather courses;
● Assure culturally and contextually appropriate and accessible education across linguistic differences;
● Moderate a collaborative and transformative learning network in which EcoGather learners can share
challenges, successes, ideas, and reflections;
● Assess the efficacy of the EcoGather Initiative and its component parts;
● Communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written form;
● Continually acquire and apply new substantive knowledge and instructional technology skills to enhance
instructional design practice;
● Work effectively as part of a partially remote staff unit and collaborate closely with Sterling’s VP of Strategic
Initiatives, Director of Continuing Education, and multimedia production team; and
● Use education as a force to create a more just, equitable, and resilient food system.
This work will be conducted with an eye toward establishing an institution-wide repository of modular learning
assets and supporting members of the faculty (full-time & adjunct) in transitioning their teaching to be
remote-enabled, place-based and competency

Requirements: ● Bachelor’s degree required; Masters in Education or a related field preferred; ● Experience as an educator, especially of culturally and linguistically diverse learners; ● Experience designing, developing, and delivering emerging learning solutions ● Familiarity with learning management systems, collaborative technologies, and design software; ● Strong project management, organizing, and leadership skills; ● Responsive, respectful, clear, and effective communication skills; ● Record of managing multiple projects and stakeholders at once and delivering completed outputs on time; and ● Willingness to pitch in and support the work of others.
Bachelor’s degree required; Masters in Education or a related field preferred
This is a full-time, exempt, at-will position that functions across multiple time zones. It is grant funded under the EcoGather Initiative. It may be based in Craftsbury Common, VT or performed remotely.
