Makerspace Manager

Saint Michael's College is inviting applications for the MakerSpace Manager position in the SMC MakerSpace. The MakerSpace Manager embraces technology, science, and art to inspire imagination, draw out potential, and create a safe gathering place for the SMC community. This role provides oversight of the MakerSpace and manages a vibrantly creative and explorative environment for collaborative programming and support for faculty, staff, and students’ creative experiences and expressions where ideas can be tested and implemented. The manager offers workshops, training, and mentorship to community members to foster high utilization and engagement of the resources available in the MakerSpace.

The position can be negotiated as a 12-month or 10-month (August thru May) position.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides operations and logistics support for the SMC MakerSpace learning community
  • Provides supervision and training for MakerSpace student staff
  • Plans, develops, markets, and offers MakerSpace workshops in collaboration with student staff
  • Builds MakerSpace partnerships among campus user community
  • Maintains MakerSpace equipment and materials inventory
  • Ensures compliance with safety and rules/policy guidelines
  • With IT staff, develops policies and procedures for the use of the space
  • Develops and oversees marketing strategies to publicize ongoing projects and workshops
  • Develops training materials for use of equipment as well as processes and procedures for both patrons and student staff
  • Provides excellent customer service  

This position will require regular work hours, as well as some evenings and weekends.

Requirements:

Applicants must have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or specialized training
  • One or more years of working with technology, in customer service and as a Maker.
  • Has an effective communication ability, written and verbal, to assist others to develop technical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Illustrator, Premier, Photoshop
  • Has operational and maintenance knowledge of sewing machines, laser cutters, and vinyl cutters
