Marketing Assistant - Church Street Marketplace

The Marketing Assistant will be developing, implementing, and evaluating an annual marketing and promotion plans for the Church Street Marketplace (CSM) District. The plan is a significant component of the organization's overall strategic direction developed in collaboration with business owners and the Church Street Marketplace Commission. The Marketing Assistant is an ambassador of the Marketplace brand and steward of these strategies that build awareness of, reinforce and strengthen the goals of the Church Street Marketplace and the City of Burlington.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Develop, implement and evaluate CSM's annual marketing and promotion plan
  • Manage the Department's permits and licensing program that includes licensing of all Sidewalk cafes, Cart Vendors and Street Performers; and permits for non-profit tabling, festivals and events, parades, rallies, demonstrations and sidewalk obstructions
  • Leverage available public relations and communications opportunities to further advance the mission, awareness and community outreach for the Church Street Marketplace District
  • Manage the CSM brand and uphold and maintain brand standards and strengthen name recognition by building stronger brand identity and awareness
  • Propose, manage and oversee Church Street Marketplace's advertising and marketing budget
  • Build and foster major media promotional relationships with top market venues, including but not limited to local print, radio and TV entities
  • Plan, develop, and implement comprehensive paid media strategies to increase brand visibility and recognition, and drive fan growth and leads via paid Facebook and Instagram campaigns
  • Plan, develop and implement a corporate sponsorship program to fund events and activities
  • Organize and lead the retail promotion committee, developing an annual retail promotion plan
  • Organize and lead all market research including annual customer service survey, annual sales and marketing survey, hospitality survey, annual downtown census
  • Organize and manage bi-annual department presentations to BTV Stat
  • Work with all CSM businesses and the Marketplace Commission to create a positive, informative guest experience
  • Manage development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, social media, and CSM website
  • Coordinate webpage and social media maintenance--ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly on all channels
  • Supervise all temporary employees and College interns to fulfill CSM activities
  • Analyze the effectiveness of marketing and advertising for all programs, including but not limited to events and festivals
  • Support program staff in increasing audience and maximizing audience potential
  • Track and report analytical data as it pertains to shopping, dining and visitation and adapt marketing plan and program based on results
  • Stay current with social media trends and incorporate, as appropriate, to improve the customer experience and leverage ongoing customer involvement
  • Respond to all comments, messages, and replies in a timely and respectful manner
  • Maintain and update all media and marketing lists
  • Work with other City departments as needed to consult and provide marketing support on a project specific basis, or for general needs

Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related degree and three (3) years' experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations required. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree requirement on a two-for-one year basis Knowledge of business improvement districts and retail sales preferred. Experience developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies Ability to represent the Marketplace Department and Marketplace Commission in situations requiring public speaking Ability to collaborate across departments, sectors and throughout the community. Ability to build relationships on behalf of a city department and business improvement district Ability to solicit, receive and implement as appropriate feedback from the community Ability to work in a Windows and Macintosh computer environment required Understanding of design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite Understanding of print processes and working with print vendors Understanding of web and e-marketing products Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced, pressurized environment.
