Edelweiss Mountain Deli History and Position Summary:

Edelweiss Mountain Deli is where old friends from Stowe and around the world connect around outdoor adventure, and local food and beverages. First built as a one room schoolhouse serving the Luce Hill area back in the 1830’s, the building was purchased and moved in 1940 to its present location on the Mountain Road. In 1968, the building and land were purchased by Swiss ski instructors who founded Edelweiss and set it on its course. 52 years later, this local institution serves Stowe while honoring its legacy as a place where community is built one conversation at a time.


Vermont is a special place with an agrarian legacy that cultivates a culture of innovation and a commitment to local, high quality, craft endeavors. This culture has nurtured many remarkable family-owned food and beverage entrepreneurial success stories. 185 years after the one room school-house was built, Edelweiss today has a mission of sharing Vermont at its finest.

Edelweiss is a specialty food and beverage retailer with a significant commitment to prepared food. It is and always has been a to go / curbside business. Historically lunch-focused, new owners have recently made significant strategic financial and operational commitments to the breakfast and dinner business. The new role of Sous Chef represents a unique opportunity for the right person to quickly build upon and significantly enhance Edelweiss' reputation as a destination of choice – and by extension their professional reputation - in Vermont’s most global market. In close partnership with the Executive Chef and owners, they will be responsible for strengthening the excellence and expanding the inherent promise (creativity, quality, freshness, presentation and affordability) of our prepared food. In turn, the other assets of the business can be creatively leveraged in ways that catalyze connecting with, building and supporting our community.

As Edelweiss’ Sous Chef, you would work closely with the Executive Chef in coordinating the kitchen team, while assisting the Executive Chef in administering the planning, preparation, production, and control of all culinary operations of Edelweiss Mountain Deli.

This includes overseeing kitchen operations while maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment for the staff. You will also assist in preparing or directing the preparation of meals in accordance with Edelweiss Mountain’s programs and guidelines.

We Are Looking For

We are looking for a reliable and team-oriented professional who is able to work enthusiastically in a fast-paced environment, both in the kitchen and the customer-facing front house.

We expect experience in kitchen preparation and fine dining operations as a leader

Prior experience as a Sous Chef, Line and/or Prep Cook

Proactive communication and knife handling skills required

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a culinary / fast paced kitchen environment
  • Can work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • Can reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Responsible for maintaining the highest level of food quality and presentation
  • Ability to maintain strong relationships with all staff members
  • Demonstrate team-building capabilities and lead by example
