Water Resources Engineer or Scientist

SLR is seeking an entry- to mid-level Water Resource Engineer or Scientist to work in our Waterbury, VT office location. The Vermont Office of SLR offers engineering and environmental science services to public, non-profit, and private clients in Vermont and the region. We specialize in water resource engineering and science and provide environmentally friendly engineering solutions to keep people safe and protect natural resources. Our specialty work includes stream and floodplain restoration, flood mitigation, dam removal, dam safety, stormwater management, fish passage, bridges, culverts, transportation system resiliency, river and floodplain assessment, and water quality protection.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of water resource projects and will assist with designrelated tasks such as field data collection, hydrology and hydraulic modeling, engineering analysis, GIS map preparation, AutoCAD plan drafting, permitting, and reporting. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate on all phases of a project from site assessment to construction oversight, to deliver quality work that has a positive and lasting impact on the communities in which we work.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide engineering design and develop technical drawings using AutoCAD
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic computations and modeling
• Provide technical support for engineering analysis and design of water resource projects
• Perform field measurements and data analysis
• Collect monitoring data and perform field reviews of project sites
• Prepare technical documents and reports
• Prepare maps and conduct analysis using GIS

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Field work and travel are expected to be a part of this position. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees are expected to perform the following activities: 
• Normal amount of extended work hours may be required
• On occasion, works outdoors in environmental conditions that include extreme heat, rain, snow, humidity, and cold
• During field visits, stand for long periods, climb hills, and walk-through riparian corridors, forests, and undeveloped terrain, and conduct work within the flowing stream channel 
• Endure exposure to insects and wildlife
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Required Qualifications ​• 1-5 years’ work experience in water resources • Experience applying environmental modeling including hydrologic calculations and HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling • Demonstrated experience in drafting with AutoCAD Civil 3D • Demonstrated experience with GIS map preparation and spatial analysis • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Valid driver’s license • Willing to travel by car and airplane, including rare overnight travel
• Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Science with a concentration in water resources
