EMPOWER YOUR YEAR!

Rosie’s Girls ® Afterschool incorporates everything we love about Rosie’s Girls summer camp in a format that can be tailored to any middle school in Vermont. In Rosie’s Girls Afterschool, students will be exposed to a career field that is non-traditional to women through hands-on activities and projects in a safe and supportive environment. Rosie’s Girls afterschool also incorporates our trademark social and emotional empowerment curriculum to address issues of society and identity in age-appropriate and engaging ways. The Rosie's Girls curriculum supports the Agency of Education's guidelines on students' personalized learning plans, a blueprint for their future careers.

Vermont Works for Women is excited to announce we are offering Rosie’s Girls Afterschool for the 2020-2021 school year!

For the 2020-2021 school year, Vermont Works for Women’s partnered with local middle schools and community organizations to run Rosie’s Girls Afterschool in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid model (a mixture of in-person activities and a virtual curriculum), in accordance with the needs of schools. All Rosie’s Girls Afterschool participants receive a take-home project kit to explore non-traditional careers and STEM concepts through hands-on, engaging activities. Kits are currently available in three themes: Wood & Metal, Water & Natural Resources, and Invention. We are honored and excited to partner with NorthWoods Stewardship Center and Vermont Rural Water Association to create Rosie’s Girls Water & Natural Resources, and with the Young Inventors’ Program to design Rosie’s Girls Invent.

Rosie's Girls Afterschool Project Kits

wood & Metal

water & Natural Resources

Invent

Build wooden structures and mechanical models, and learn to manipulate metal with pliers and jewelry tools to make a beaded suncatcher.

Learn more about water flow, stream habitats, and the importance of preserving natural resources by building filtration systems, aquifers, and more.

Follow every step in the invention process to make a creation of your own. Start with a problem in your life, and invent a way to solve it.

In addition to hands-on projects, all Rosie’s Girls Afterschool sessions include our Power Skill curriculum, which empowers youth to build skills and confidence with concepts like self-advocacy, culture and identity, pursuing one’s passions, and breaking down gender stereotypes. In all models, the Power Skill lessons can be supplemented through an online learning platform, newly developed this fall.

VWW runs Rosie’s Girls Afterschool in partnership with educators, middle schools, and community organizations throughout Vermont. This school year, we are serving youth in Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Franklin, Lamoille, Orleans and Rutland counties through partnerships with:
