EMPOWER YOUR YEAR!

Rosie’s Girls ® Afterschool incorporates everything we love about Rosie’s Girls summer camp in a format that can be tailored to any middle school in Vermont. In Rosie’s Girls Afterschool, students will be exposed to a career field that is non-traditional to women through hands-on activities and projects in a safe and supportive environment. Rosie’s Girls afterschool also incorporates our trademark social and emotional empowerment curriculum which addresses issues of society and identity in age-appropriate and engaging ways. The Rosie's Girls curriculum will support the Agency of Education's guidelines on students' personalized learning plans, a blueprint for their future careers.

Vermont Works for Women is excited to announce we will be offering Rosie’s Girls Afterschool for the 2020-2021 school year! VWW runs Rosie’s Girls Afterschool in partnership with middle schools and local community organizations, and we hope to reach youth in at least Caledonia County, Chittenden County, Franklin County, and Lamoille County.

The first session of Rosie’s Girls Afterschool is set to launch in November 2020, followed by additional sessions beginning in January 2021. Stay tuned for updates on Rosie’s Girls Afterschool sessions held in spring 2021!

For the 2020-2021 school year, Rosie’s Girls Afterschool will be run either in-person, in a hybrid model (a mixture of in-person activities and a virtual curriculum), or virtually, according to the needs of schools. All Rosie’s Girls Afterschool participants will receive a take-home project kit, through which they will be able to explore non-traditional careers and STEM concepts in a supportive environment with hands-on, engaging activities. The kits being distributed this fall and winter have a Build/Weld theme.

Additionally, all Rosie’s Girls Afterschool sessions will empower youth through our Power Skill curriculum, which teaches skills and concepts such as self-advocacy, culture and identity, pursuing passions, and breaking down gender stereotypes. For our virtual or hybrid models, the Power Skill curriculum will be taught and/or supplemented through an online learning platform, newly developed this fall.
