Trailblazers: Trades Training Program

Vermont Works for Women's Trailblazers is a free training program to support the entry and success of women and gender-expansive individuals in construction and the trades. For participants, it is an opportunity to obtain or increase skills and certifications for jobs that are in high demand, and gain access to a viable pathway to employment. For employers, it is a way to develop existing staff and identify new candidates to fill critical job openings. Apply today! 

Trailblazers is open to women and gender-expansive individuals ages 16+, no experience necessary! Students enrolled in high school and/or tech centers are encouraged to apply - tech center students should also check out our career exploration and professional skills development program Youth@Work

Trailblazers is available to all women and people marginalized for their gender identity age 16 and up, with no prior experience in the trades necessary. With any questions contact Jillian Scannell at

Training includes:

  • 7 weeks of hands-on training (held evenings and Saturdays) taught by female instructors, covering core construction and renewable energy skills; and includes a 3-week internship with a local employer
  • Access to VWW Employment and Career Services staff, mentors, job shadows, on-the-job training, and one-on-one job/apprenticeship placement support
  • A safe, non-judgmental environment for individuals to build skills, gain confidence and explore fields that tend to be male-dominated, but where research shows time and again women have equal abilities to thrive and succeed
